We are so excited to announce that we are now offering Yoga classes at CasaVive! We had an amazing time with our instructor Antonietta at our January Lunch and Learn, and Restorative Yoga classes will be happening Mondays 715pm-815pm. (Message us here if you want a spot!)
Let's chat here about why we decided Yoga was the perfect fit for CasaVive.
At our studio, we take a holistic approach to health. This means that we care not just about our clients' physical health, but also their mental and social health as well. Physical health we know we have covered, Yasmine is a Registered Kinesiologist and Certified Athletic Therapist, and Jacqueline is a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Counselor. Through exercise, manual therapy, and nutrition counseling, we can help our clients optimize their physical health.

Working on physical health often has positive benefits for mental health too. Increased confidence, routine, seeing goals get made and accomplished can have a huge impact on one's mental health. For our clients who need a little extra guidance, Jacqueline is certified Life Coach as well.
When we see that our strategies are not working for a client, or that they need more or a different kind of help than we can offer, we will always refer out to a more qualified practitioner. (Heartsbloom is a beautiful company with amazing therapists who also value a holistic approach, and who we trust whole heartedly with our clients. Check them out at our next Lunch and Learn!)
When it comes to social health, we had to think a little harder on how to best support our clients. This is why we have lounge chairs and a coffee table in our studio; we want our client to be able to sit and chat when they see each other between sessions. We encourage participation in our small group classes so our clients have more oppourtunity to meet each other. A huge reason we do our Lunch and Learns is for this as well. It gives a time and space for our clients to come together, meet new people, and learn and experience together.
So now, what does yoga have to do with this? When is comes to mental health, we've noticed two big things:
1. Many of our clients are under a lot of stress, and often are struggling to manage it
2. When it came time to stretch or do some relaxing mobility work, working not just on range of motion, but also embodiment and mindfulness, this was really challenging for many of our clients.
Yoga fills this void. Specifically, Yin Yoga, or Restorative Yoga. Restorative Yoga is a passive, meditative form of yoga that allows you to focus on your breath while releasing tension in your body. Unlike other forms of yoga, restorative yoga requires you to hold asanas or poses for an extended length of time, typically 5 minutes or more. It is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasizes the meditative aspect of yoga—the union of body and mind.

Restorative yoga often uses props like folded blankets, blocks, or bolsters. These props help support your body and allow you to deepen the pose and more fully relax your body.
Yoga takes a different approach to the body and a different perspective than we usually take in a personal training session, or even in our mobility classes. The goals are different. Whereas our goals in a training session or small class are geared more towards physical improvement, the goal of restorative yoga is geared more toward relaxation and mindfulness. This is exactly what we felt like we were lacking in our offerings, and what so many of our clients could benefit from.
We will always be working to improve our studio and be able to best support our clients from a holistic lens, Yoga is just the next step.
